FAQs

  • Electrolysis is the only FDA-approved method for permanent hair removal. It’s been around since 1875 and is effective on all skin tones and hair types. Unlike temporary methods like shaving, waxing, or even laser hair removal (which targets the hair pigment), electrolysis works from the inside out by targeting the root of the hair follicle itself.

  • Electrolysis treats one hair at a time using a tiny, carefully controlled pulse of heat to target and disable the hair’s growth center at the base of the follicle.
Here’s what you can expect during treatment:

    • I begin each session by washing my hands thoroughly and putting on a fresh pair of latex free, nitrile gloves.

    • Using a magnifying lamp, I’ll assess the treatment area, checking for hair density, thickness, skin condition, and any signs of ingrown hairs.

    • Based on that, I’ll choose the proper sterile probe size and machine setting.

    • I then cleanse your skin with 70% isopropyl alcohol and gently insert a sterile, single-use probe into the natural opening of the follicle.

    • By pressing a foot pedal, I send heat into the follicle. This cauterizes the blood supply, cutting off nutrients to the hair.

    • The hair is then gently removed with tweezers—it should glide out easily since it’s no longer attached to the blood supply.

    • I finish by cleansing the area again with alcohol and applying soothing aloe vera gel.

  • I currently treat the following areas:

    • Face (eyebrows, upper lip, chin, cheeks, sideburns, neck)

    • Body (underarms, chest, abdomen, legs, toes, feet, hands, arms)

Please note: I am not currently accepting bikini area clients.
If you’re unsure whether I treat a specific area, feel free to ask!

  • Yes, electrolysis is safe and effective on every skin tone, hair color, and hair texture. Unlike laser hair removal, which relies on pigment, electrolysis targets the follicle directly, making it inclusive and effective for all.

  • Electrolysis is gradual but permanent. It takes a series of sessions, and no one—not even your electrologist—can predict the exact number. Everyone’s hair growth cycle, hormones, and hair density, and prior hair removal methods are different, so treatment timelines differ person to person.

We’ll create a plan that fits your lifestyle and goals, but consistency and patience are key. Most clients see a significant reduction within the first 6 months, with full clearance typically taking 1–2 years, depending on the area and case.

  • Most clients describe it as a brief heat sensation or a tiny pinch. Some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, and pain tolerance varies from person to person.
    To help ease discomfort:

    • Some clients take Tylenol or acetaminophen before treatment

    • You may apply a topical numbing cream 1 hour before your session, covered with plastic wrap

    • Staying well-hydrated can make the treatment more comfortable and help hairs release more easily.

  • Scarring and hyperpigmentation are two different things, and I want you to feel confident knowing the difference.

Electrolysis, when done carefully and correctly, does not cause scarring. I take every step to protect your skin during and after treatment. It’s normal to see tiny scabs or small whiteheads as your skin heals—this is part of the body’s natural process. Don’t pick at them—letting them fall off on their own prevents irritation and promotes smooth healing. Hyperpigmentation (temporary dark spots) can sometimes occur, especially if the area is picked at or irritated after treatment. These spots fade with time and proper aftercare.

Your skin’s health is just as important to me as removing the hair. Every treatment is done with that balance in mind.

  • Yes! Electrolysis is actually a great solution for ingrown hairs, which often cause irritation or dark spots. I will carefully release the trapped hair and then treat the follicle to stop it from growing back. Over time, inflammation and hyperpigmentation significantly improve.
